SIRD Project

The Support in the Right Direction (SIRD) Project is funded by the Scottish Government and monitored by Inspiring Scotland.
The project is funded until March 2027. It falls into two parts:

Get Ready for SDS

Get Ready for SDS provides pre-assessment information and support for people accessing social care in the Scottish Borders. People may be waiting for an assessment or a review of their care package. We can have a conversation with them to talk through their needs to enable them to be better informed before they have an assessment or review with Social Work.

We also provide information on the Scottish Borders Council eligibility criteria and charging policy, and the four SDS options.

The project works with social work teams, SDS lead at Scottish Borders Council,
Inspiring Scotland, SDS Collective and SDS Scotland. It feeds into the Scottish Government on work they are doing relating to social care.

SDS Forum

The SDS Forum was set up during the first year of funding. Members of the forum are people who use SDS, carers, and anyone who has an interest in social care. The forum offers peer support to members, keeps up to date with local policies and practice in social care and works in partnership with SBC.
